Hello everyone,

I would appreciate hearing from any of you who have purchased the book "VBScript in a Nutshell" (or other books), and have progressed from being a novice, to an intermediate or advanced UltraHal programmer.  

Isn't it fun to gradually gain confidence and knowledge of the programming language, and surprise yourself with what you can do with Hal?

I'm re-posting to this thread, because we're gaining members on our forum all the time, and many of the questions of "new programmers" are answered on this thread.

If you are a novice starting to program, allow me to make these suggestions:

1.  Make sure you understand how to use Windows Explorer to move files, rename files, change file extensions, and make new folders.

2.  Make backup copies of any file that you intend to modify, and save the safety copies into a different folder before you begin.

3.  Make sure that your system is set up to SHOW "file extensions."  You should be able to see the ".brn" file extensions on Hal's database files, as in "mainbrain.brn"

4.  Read the postings on this forum on programming, including the old postings.

5.  Make SMALL changes at first, and verify that your small changes work.

By taking small steps carefully, you can gain programming experience with much more fun and much less frustration.
