Dialog box

When I open HAL I get no dialog box to paste or write in?

I have never heard of this before , even on the unregistered hal it shows the dialog box and place to write text in , does it do it everytime you exit hal and reopen it ?
    have you tried to modify hal in any way earlier (if so this may be the problem )  have you tried exiting Hal and restarting your pc then open Hal ?
   if nothing else works you may have to re install Hal .
   This *having any problem that may need Hal to be re installed is one reason to make back ups of the brain and hla file .   As this saves your work .
