Make sure that the extensions are .htr and that they are in the UltraHal\Characters folder.
Their images won't show up in the small character window unless you do a screen capture of the character and save it as a jpg with the same name as the character's htr file.
Ex:
Character name = Karen.htr
Image name = Karen.jpg
You should then be able to see and display the character of your choice.
For a character based on your daughter's photo, one can come pretty close by using People Putty and import the photo and edit the head size, shape, etc. Not perfect but like I said...close.
There were quite a few folks here that became good at doing those types of character images.
