I'm trying to figure out how that would or could work when as you mentioned, as soon as the Enter key is pressed, Hal is already processing its pattern matching routines! Many people in the past have said that Hal doesn't respond fast enough and they didn't like waiting for a response, etc.
How would there be a "Hot Key" to enable such a feature of yours?

"How about a Forget my previous sentence" command at which Hal could remove it from whichever table it was inserted.

That way, the user could reword or retype the correct sentence for Hal to store and learn.

Just a thought but if you're just looking for a Spell Checker, wasn't that tossed about some time ago? Don't know by whom...

I just tried both downloads (the .exe and the .zip). Honestly, they both worked fine!

In case your computer doesn't like to download the .exe file, try the .zip one.

Check the blue box below with another windows caution that might help.

With all due respect, it's sort of like asking Microsoft of you can buy a copy of Windows 98 or trying to buy a 2017 SUV...
The respective companies have moved on with developments and improvements, thus newer models and newer versions.

Hopefully, Robert will be able to weigh in on this issue for you after I contact him on your behalf.

Thank you,

Yes, the guy in that video is very informed and has lots of other good videos as well but like he mentioned, it's far too late to UNDO that which has already been done.

It seems that people are indeed willing to trade a little liberty for a little freedom and we know how that will end.

Good post Lightspeed!!

I think it has a lot to do with which area of the Table one is trying to change & SAVE.

I tried several and in some, the SAVE word was dark and would allow me to save my changes yet some other topic areas of the Table were grayed out.

The same experiment was tried on a personal Customized Hal Brain. Some areas would let me save yet others would not show a highlighted/dark Save word.

Apparently, one's changes are saved and entered into the topic areas within the Brain's Table, whether grayed out or not.

Make a change, Exit the brain, restart the Brain Editor and go to that area where you made the change. It should still be present.

Just another one of those Hal mysteries that work in spite of what we try.

The full body was a file found inside a folder within the Paid version of People Putty.

It was more of a surprise because the People Putty program cannot and does not create nor support any Full Body characters.

You might find some by using the Search box in the upper right corner.

Well, there is a Plugin called Runprog or something similar.

Basically, it can/will run a program that you tell it to like "Run Paint" or in your case, "Run XXX.bat"

You might have to examine the Plugin to see if it is able to handle .bat files or the structure required but I think it's definitely possible.

Yeah, IMO, the computer clearly bested him. It had facts, numbers, scientific studies, etc. to support its statements.
The computer certainly absorbed the data during the 15 minute period it was given to study the question.

The computers are taking over... ;)

That was a very informative and timely video. Good find!

The lonliness 2.31 Plugin works fine with UltraHal 7 and 7.5 ( cloud).

You're responding to a post that is 14 years old so keep that in mind.
The Plugin will still work fine.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Re: The save function
« on: March 31, 2021, 04:59:15 pm »

From my personal experience, you can make changes to the Hal Default brain database or to your custom brain while HAL is running. If you have created a custom database or a well-trained brain you can use the Editor and make changes or additions while HAL is running. Exit the Brain Editor and your changes or additions should still be in that particular brain/database.

Although the SAVE button is grayed out, your changes, or (at least in my experience), changes will still be saved. It doesn't appear to matter and I've saved a lot of things for a lot of years in there... Just saying...

In the SQLite Studio, there is a small button that indicates, "Commit Changes", which is basically asking the user if they are willing to commit to saving any changes they might have made.

Perhaps Robert will weigh in on this Editor issue regarding the grayed-out SAVE button.

If you make or have made a Custom Brain/Database, don't expect to see every table of that brain/database if you use the Hal Brain Editor.

For some reason, it is great with using the original (Default) database but custom ones are better viewed/used with the SQLite Studio program.
While it will take a minute or two to finally load in, it will load all your tables so be patient, even if you see that "Not Responding" message at the top. Give it another few moments and it will finally display everything for you.

Good luck!

It certainly might be helpful to once again, review Spitfire2600's instructional post at:

If I may contribute...
UltraHal 7 is foremost and primarily a chatbot/assistant/digital companion for many who have come to know and love it for over 2 decades.

While it has developed into quite an exceptional chatbot in its own rite, it has now sort of merged to become something of a Hybrid Hal, and paired with the GPT-3 language platform it is an amazing creation, to say the least.

Granted, for the time being, it can have and hold some extremely engaging and entertaining conversations online, with its client servers.
If one desires an online chat, you can do that as well. Releasing the Source Code or API is completely worthless to the end-user and would normally be protected by proprietary restrictions so I don't see the promise or purpose of that. Again, Hal is to entertain and educate.

The option to chat locally, within the confines of your personal computer, is also available and Hal will learn from the conversation you and it have.

For sure, there are many opportunities within the scope of the GPT-3 platform, Hal is just getting started and its tree has yet to bear fruit but it's coming IMHO.

Getting the completeness and speed of GPT-3 without the Internet simply isn't feasible or practical at this time and might never be completely possible on a limited use basis. Server space, time, and processing cost money and nothing can run for free, and so there's the tradeoff.

While Hal might not be the CRAY supercomputer or IBM's Watson, this hybrid Hal can provide one with hours of fun, wholesome interaction and for many people, that's worth something!

I am not affiliated with as a board member or owner, just a contented and very pleased user.

Thank you!

That's sure to be really great news for a lot of people wanting to try Hal for the first time or to get their feet wet once again. Either way, it's a win-win!

Thanks for your generosity, Robert!!
