Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / New skin for HAL: WMP
« on: May 12, 2005, 05:52:59 pm »

Corel Draw has numerous versions out there as well. It is quite a capable program. PhotoShop is probably one of the better programs but rather pricey. Raymond's recommendation of PSP is certainly a good one!

By trial & error you will be able to figure where different parts of the body start and end. Do one, save, load Hal and try that character / skin combination. Close Hal, bring up PSP modify a bit more, save, Load Hal...etc...etc...until you get something you like.

Let us know how you're doing...

I think Hollywood was trying to locate the texture template that many of us use to paint / modify as opposed to a plain jpg image.

The texture is actually a Texture Map. It's sort of like "unfolding" the character's head from a seam in the back. The ears will be outward at each side of the image and at first might look a little grotesque. You can also experiment with different heads / faces and do a cut / paste operation. A decent graphics program is needed as some stretching of the image will be required to align properly with the base image.

The file I had was named body_femaleMap.jpg
Look for the word Map as part of the jpg file name.
It should be in your Haptek directory or subs.

Oh yes...Do make a copy of the original for safekeeping and modify the other one.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / I forget who asked but...

Using Windows Explorer -
If you go to your:

C:\Program Files\Haptek\HaptekGuide4\MakinContent\animating\haptars
directory, find the file: body_female.htr

Double click on it. This opens the Haptek player

Scroll down in explorer to:

C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\data\standard\skins

select a texture, DRAG & DROP into the open Haptek window
and see your new texture creation on the full body female
(the one that jiggles).

I still can't recall who...but this does work. You can also
do like the fast food restaurants and Super Size it (Maximize
in upper right corner).

Mark,

It should have read UltraHal5\Defbrain
It is a subdirectory under UltraHal.

Download the Casual.hap and Casual.brn files
plus the rest. Insert the script file using
copy/paste from Notepad or similar.

Mark,

Any way to resize those headphones? They do look a tad large
for her head. BTW, nice outfit for a walk in the woods. <G>

Ultra Hal 7.0 / A different Install error.
« on: May 07, 2005, 06:43:47 pm »
Interesting...could be interpreted both ways.
I never did care much for the OBJ format as
opposed to 3DS which I find superior.

Most good 3D programs will allow the import of
either of these along with other formats as well.

Skinning the Haptek model is possible using the
templates but one's artistic ability (or lack of)
will definitely come into play! LOL!

As far as using another modeler for the HAL interface,
that will take some research.

Cheers!

I beg to differ with you Raymond but OBJ is a Wavefront format and was / is used in the creation of some of the Haptek props.

I'm not 100% certain about the use of .ojb files (they can be created by a variety of 3D programs) but I did see this type of file referenced in one of the Haptak directory files.

One can use 3DS Max to create props for hair, glasses, chairs, etc. I know Haptek sells a development package as a plug-in for 3DS Max.

You can use your own face with People Putty and I believe you can also do a copy / paste of an image of your face onto one of the templates. This last method will probably preduce somewhat less than desirable results due to the fact that the image will not be properly applied to the 3D head of your character. You will notice a bit of stretching because without a 3D program like Max, it's difficult to project a 2D image onto a 3D object.

Hope this makes sense.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Wigs?

Check your spelling and spacing before/after the = sign.

Also open your Windows Explorer and look in:
C:\Program Files\Haptek\PeoplePutty\data\program\hap_temp

Each time one opens or clicks on a Hair in People Putty Accessories, one can see the associated file appear in the above directory.
The files only stay in there for a relatively short time, so do your copying / moving accordingly.

Look at the smaller Hap files to see how their program is calling the hair files (names, usage, etc.)

Let us know what develops.

markofkane,

I found this topic using the SEARCH feature
and typing  hair. One has to look through all
the different topic areas when searching.

Hope this helps.

Doublestack,

Most have simply captured / saved the JPG image then
painted over it with a print program (airbrush, etc.)
to get the desired effect of clothing (or none at all)!

If saved as a BMP there is no mirror effect otherwise
if saved as a JPG then Hal's Left side of face is your
right. Mirrored!

Good luck

Without causing any offense I would seriously hesitate and EDIT the common knowledge files before allowing Hal to "read" them.

Thay contain anything but common knowledge. Person's names, slang, numerous misspellings, the overuse of I and many other wrongful statements will likely make Hal anything but smarter!

Caveat emptor
