greeting hal plug in idea

i thought of this idea last night in bed .
i know hal has greeting in his profram but this is sort of a different idea , my idea is for someone to make a plug in that will greet others (this will come in handy to for using speech recognition ) for isntance someone is in the room with you and you say to hal " hal this is or hal i would like you to meet , etc. john wright !  
  and hal would respond with various greetings back " hello john or hello john wright its a pleasure to meet you , lonnie has talked about you before its nice to finally meet you !!
 i beleive a plug in could be written (although i am not sure ) to do something like this . what does anyone else think ?

I don't know...if Hal only had the ability to use a webcam, it would KNOW when a person came into your room!

Just kidding, Lonnie...your idea adds to Hals abilities and sounds pretty good!

it could be done...but would (after being introduced) Hal be talking to the "new" person or the one that was already there?
if so, users would have to be switched "on the fly".
i am not positive if the switching could be done.
it would be tricky.[]

wasnt talking about hal actually switching on the fly (although that may be accomplished some day but would be hard unless done by face recognition and or voice recognition regardless years away in my estmate , ) actually what i ment was more only hal knowing that i intoduced him to someone and hal would just say glad to meet you art or jasondude . i beleive a plug in could be done for this purpose .

 art yes hal would know when someone came into the room but unless a good facial recognition was used he wouldnt know who it was (unless a picture of that person was in the hal file and hal scanned it anytime someone came in and matched it with facial recognition or simular then said i see that arts in here to !
