Anyone loaded Hal Windows ?
« on: March 15, 2010, 03:16:00 pm »
I found the link in the forum (somewhere when reading a lot of different topics) http://halwindowscentral.com/default.aspx

There is a lot of content posted there... and it sounds like a great idea but based on the forms there I'm not sure if anyone has installed?

Just curious if anyone has... to know how its working for you.

There is this thread in the forum:

If you skip over the arguing, there are some informative parts to it. [;)]

I haven't tried Hal Windows, but it looks interesting.  I too would be curious to hear the opinions of anyone who's used it.

I always wanted a computer like H.A.L. from "2001: A Space Odyssey".  Just not the beta version that kills you while you sleep.

I tried unsuccessfully to get it all to work. I must say though that Rich really put a heck of a lot of time and ingenuity into this thing. There is so much in it that people have been asking for for years but its not very user friendly (IMO) to set up. If there were choices of 2 different setups, one with and one without the halinator I would be more inclined to work with it.
Some cool features are: 1. mouse and windows awareness 2. the ability to be web based (although I have yet to figure out where brain tables are stored and how they update). 3. the infrastructure for home automation commands 4. the incredible haptek work that was coded.
Some issues for me were that the Haptek loading was super slow when halinator was open..I couldnt get any awareness features to work..
a few others that I can't recall at the moment. I think that it is
still a work in progress but I can say this after going through all the scripts etc....A  LOT of sleepless nights were spent developing and nurturing this project from what I gather so kudoz to Rich for pushing the boundaries!

Thanks Djkilla,

I thought it looked kinda complicated.  And since I'm still learning about Hal, especially the brain editing functions, I thought it might be too soon for me to tackle something like this. More complexity than I need just now.

Wow... I actually sat and read through that entire thing! Crazy.
I really like the concept and really wish there was something out there that was more robust - meaning a command level intelligence that can learn. Keep on keepin'-on  =)
