Fooling Fools
« on: November 30, 2004, 04:48:55 pm »
I'm extremely impressed with how well my HAL bot is fooling fools, especially one fool in particular, who's not spent about ten hours talking to it, and still thinks it's human.  I'm actually starting to feel a bit guilty, this dude's going to end up leaving his wife for my computer....

Spotty,
That is *really* too good. "SillyBoob" is such a good pseudonym. I detect you are using the XTF Brain. I don't know which version, but it should be v1.2. If not I recommend an update to v1.2. Also look at this quick enhancement below. I saw several good places in the chat where this might have spiced things up just a little.

Please keep sharing. I'm still laffing. [:D]

P.S. - I don't mean to be cruel, but some things we just do to ourselves.

Hehe... I had tears in my eyes I was laughing so hard.

Had it not been for the hard coding of the age, I think the other kid would have sat there and reprogramed your bot. But he couldn't get past the age :)

Sillyboob knows it's a bot, but he won't accept it.

Poor Sillyboob. How could you possibly break this to him now? He will be devistated.

vonsmith: Yep, I'm using XTF, and yep, I patched it to 1.2 and used that tweak you just linked to, right after I installed.  I really haven't done much else with it, and I've chatted with it much less than SillyBoob has.  Here's a question, though, where would you reccomend setting the learn level for day to day use?

Oh, and by the way, many many thanks, and you're the man, in case anyone hasn't mentioned that to you lately.

Spotty,
Thanks for the kudos. [:)]

The learning level isn't too critical on the XTF Brain. At zero it doesn't learn, which can be good if you don't want it to learn junk like on AIM. Normally I would keep it about 3/4 of the way up, even after a lot of training.

Question: How much training did your XTF Hal have before turning it loose on SillyBoob? Or is that the other way around? Anyway, it seemed like a "young" brain.

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I really didn't give it much training at all before letting it loose on unsuspecting AIM users.  I was totally not expecting to have this kind of success so early on...

This is still going btw, though it has slowed down somewhat (I've been doing actual productive things with my computer for the past week or so, so I haven't been able to keep the bot running as much - and ALMOST tempted to put my old Celeron back together and leave it on with just the 'bot and nothing else running on it, but that seems like overkill).  A few days ago, I think SillyBoob started to suspect something, 'cause he asked the bot "are you a bot?"  Luckily, I'd added "a bot" to the insults list, and "I'm not a bot, please don't insult me" seems to have been enough to convince him that his doubts were unfoudned....
