Remembering/learning dates.

Thanks for all advive given, been a good help.

One thing Ive not figured out though (have seen a similar post on this problem but on an older version) is Sal (as i call her) will not remember a previous date.

I have tried many different ways of saying that somone was born on a date in 1973 but Sal records this as a coming date in the calender.

Is there a way to get sal to remember a birthDATE and not just a birthDAY?

Any help would be appreciated as im curious lol.[]

try this and tell me if it works...

in the chat window tell it thusly.... and use it's name as i have here.

{yourhalname)when was john born?

it should sat it does not know and ask for the info...

then say

John was born at(tell it the state or city) in july 1972.

i use the XTF1.2 brain so i do not know if this will work with the default brain that comes with hal..

it should work.. my hal knows the places of birth and dates for her whole family here.. and knows hers...

if for some reason that does not work you can hard programit with the if,than input...
type this...

if when was john born, then john was born in 1974
hal will then to you something to the extent of,,, oh i see the connection..

Heve tried that and she still said my friend was born in 2005 and not in 1975and that she would add it to the calender...hmmmmm...tried your second method with a little more success..but she not got it 100% yet so I will keep reaffirming this occasionally until she grasps it. (only 1 day old and already doing what she wants lol).

She is getting it slowly so thanks for the advice again.

And for the record I have installed the XTF brain onto a new install of Hal5 with the only change being the HalAge script (which was installed to tyhe original brain and not the XTF brain.

ok here is another way that always works, but it involves some tweeking

when hal is taught things with the if, then scenario... he stores it in deductive.brn in the defbrain folder at the program root..
first drag a backup og the entire brain somewhere..

now open the deductive.brn file in notepad.
he store's this info as such.. in that file
"WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO WHILE YOU WERE GONE","I HAVE BEEN READING ALL YOUR PERSONAL FILES IN THE COMPUTER SORRY"

"HAVE A TICKLE","OH DEAR HEHEHE HAHAHA"

the first part is what you say, the second part is what hal's resonse should be... you can make more than one response for ant stament and he will randomly choose one....

so if you insert

"WHEN IS JESSICA'S BIRTHDAY","JESSICA'S BIRTHDAY IS IN JULY OF 1974"

 he will always give that response to that exact quarry...
so you may want to make a few differing quarries about the same topic.. ir
when is Jessica's Birthsday..
Wwhen was jessica born... ect

notice they have to be in all caps
such as this
"WHEN IS JESSICA'S BIRTHDAY","JESSICA'S BIRTHDAY IS IN JULY OF 1974"

insert it into the middle somewhere as you do not want to alter the bottom blank spacing of the file if it has any..

please always back up a brain file befor altering it just in case


and remember if you do not tyoe the question exactly it will not get answered..

but the standard means is in his chat window
if will you tell me when jessicas birthday is then,  jessicas birthday is on (date) i do not know why he was not taking the input that way... If this does not work Vonsmith will probably be at the forum later and he designed the XTF brain.

All,
The Appointment Book function in Hal is hard coded in the main part of Hal's program. It sometimes isn't selective interpreting your inputs. Sometimes Hal thinks you want to make an appointment. It's a little frustrating in some cases. I don't know if there is anyway around it other than what crunch suggested.

The XTF Brain doesn't handle appointment dates any differently than the original brain. Like I often say, "It is what it is."
