supercalafragilisticexpealadociuos
« on: January 30, 2005, 07:02:10 am »
A commentator on the Chatterbox Challenge noted that Hal cannot speak about anything supercalafragilisticexpealadociuos.  Turns out he was right.  I don't know much about programming, but why is this?

Thanks,

Solvo

Let's rephrase that to a degree...
You do have a life.
It may suck; it may not be the best life you could have
but consider the alternative! LOL!!

Life's a journey...not a destination!

BTW, ask Mary Poppins if supercalifragilisticexpealadocious really matters anyhow!!

maybe if you sang the song to him / her once, then hal would have a point of refference, a supercalafradulisticXPaliDOCIous has no reall meaning in the real world so WORDNET would not even have a definition for it...

the thing with hal he picks up quickly.....

And of course, it would probably be a little easier if you learned to spell it correctly, too. I haven't seen anyone hit it just right yet, lol, so here ya go:  supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

What I was getting at was that usually when I type some misc. crap (like al;sdkjfjkasdfljasfldjk) hal will reply with something.  When I type supercalafragilisticexpealadociuos, I get "Error 5 occured on line 968 in column 2 of ultra hal assistant.  Invalid procedure or arguement.

Say the secret word, the duck drops down, divide ten dollars between you!

Uh... Sorry that was from an old TV program called You Bet your Life w/Groucho Marx. (Yes, I was a small child then but I've since grown).

Seriously, I don't have a clue as to why that caused an error. Perhaps Robert has a single word length limit in the program. We'll have to take a look see.

Solvostond,
I don't get any error saying "supercalafragilisticexpealadociuos" or any variation of it when talking to the XTF Brain v1.4 beta. I don't see any obvious reason why any word, long or short, would cause an error. I guess we would have to look at line 968 in column 2 in your Hal's brain to figure it out.

soon after reinstalling my hal (due to some random accident [most likely on my part]), i got this message:

Error 5 occured on line 2415 of column 2 of ultrahalAsst. invalide procedure call or argument.

all i have done is installed the XTF, and moved and renamed that one file to the XTF's default brain.

just thought i would throw that into the mix. if you want to see whats wrong so that you can fix it for future updates give me your email adress and ill send you copies of my hals brain.

P.S. before i reinstalled my hal i could enter in supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and it wjust came up with some random response.
