i have tryed to de-install it, and install it again, but the same "error" appears...

what am i doing wrong?

and a second question. is it possible to let ultra hal run an entire program? for example , if i put an audio-cd in my driver, can he put in on my harddisk, and write it back on a cd-r? ofcourse if i tel him first how ...

sorry for my broken English , i'm from belgium [:D]

Hello Dock and welcome!

If you have downloaded the FREE version, Speech Recognition is
not available. It is for the paid version.

What operating system are you using?(95, 98, XP...)
What is the speed of your computer's processor?
How much RAM is in your computer?
What is the graphics card?

This info will help us to help you.

Regarding your last question of Hal running a program for you, yes, but it would probably involve some elaborate scripting.
Check out some of the scripts from a member here called Rich_A.
In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

hello again!

thanx for the quick respons !

off topic:

in an enthousiastic mood i forgot to introduse myself !
I'm a 21 year old student dentistry at the KULeuven in belgium,
i have 2 hobby's one is everything about audio and audio-systems,
and the other is, yes indeed computers ! [8D]

Maybee something why i ended up at your software/website ...
as a kid , a always loved to play with computers, i started very basically with a 286 in dos, over a 486 with windows 3.11 , a pentium III 500 MHz, and now 2 laptop's ... it just get's easier !

But sometimes it just doesn't feel that there is an evolution,
i'll try to explane myself by maybee a stupid example,

I have got a lot of audio-cd's, and when you have a computer, you want ofcourse that you can play all the songs from it.
so you start to encrypt them to mp3 . lateron, you get a larger harddisk , and want to pump up the quality (and quantity) of your mp3's, so while the microprocessor get's faster, the harddisk's get's larger, the file's get bigger and [:(] the time it take's to ad your mp3 on the HD still stays the same ...

same with movie's you start's to collect them as divx, you upgrade your system , than you collect them as DVD's.
Better quality larger file's (both no problem for me) but the time
you invest in working with such file's (encrypting, copying, writing) just stays the same. and that's why i would like a program (and i think it should be something like an desktop manager) that can do thing's FOR me, that would do simple task's (as programmed)with out my presence ... The fact that the program can "act" like a human, is not the main reason of using it , but it would be a extra i would discover over time .

on topic:

to answer your questions:
like I said, i use 2 laptop's at this time,
1: 2.8 Ghz , 512 Mb RAM , windows XP, graphics card, nvida Gforce FX
2: 1.7 Ghz (a mobile processor) , 512 Mb RAM , also windows XP
   the graphics card : i don't know...

and yet again, english wasn't my favorite lesson at school [:D]

(for the record: the way i use and used mp3's and divx are legal to the belgian law)

Greetings to ya all !!!

Hey Dock.

Take a snap shot of the error and send the picture of your error in post so we can better understand how to help you.

You can press Alt+Print Screen to copy an image of the error then you can paste it as an image within MS Paint and save as a .jpeg so the file stays small in data size.

Jerry.

Hi Dock.

1.Do you have the most current VB6 run time files?
2.Directx 9?
3.current video driver for your video card?
4.How many programs are loading at startup?
and could your startup programs be interferring with HAL's
Boot up?
5.Does HAL run at all?
6.try taking hal out of the startup and starting it manually after your system is stable.
7.try cleaning your registry with a registry cleaner to see if its a registry problem.
8.have you done a ChkDsk /f on your system?
9.See if Norton Utilities can fix the problem.
10.has your system been running slower than normal?
11.try downloading the current version of microsoft speech
here is a link http://www.microsoft.com/speech/download/default.mspx

Just some questions for diagnosing and maybe one of them will help you.
If not I'll look deeper.
Jerry.

On top of the other advice already given to you turn off all other programs that are loaded and running on your computer and that includes any antivirus software. My anitvirus software would not allow me to properly load Ultra Hal when I first tried. After removing it, only temporarily the program loaded and worked just fine.
Good luck with your quest.

I saw something in the MS message error2.jpg. Go to see if you can look at this file in a text editor:

C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name here]\Local Settings\Temp\WER7d13.d00\appcompat.txt

Note you'll have to go into My Computer to access the root C: drive first to find the Documents and Settings Folder.

See if there are any error messages or information in there that may give a clue to why the application is hanging up.

Do you have Microsoft's Speech system installed? Seeing as you have XP I would *assume* you do? Go into Control Panel and see if it's even there as an icon that says "speech" in your native language.

Or the Speech system might not be operating. When this program starts, it will welcome you by name using the AI's voice and then say the current date and time. It seems it's hanging on that if you do not hear any voice, so it might be something to do with the speech system.

Please don't feel it's the speech *recognition* system. It might be the speech system. The free version doesn't use the speech *recognition* part of the MS Speech system. But it uses the MS Speech system to talk back to you.

Also check that your sound card is operating ok. Do you hear other windows sounds ok?

Hope some of what you read here on the board helps you find the problem.

Hi Dock.

1. You can download VB6 Run time files here.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=BF9A24F9-B5C5-48F4-8EDD-CDF2D29A79D5&displaylang=en

Visual Basic 6.0 SP5: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp5.exe)
vbrun60sp5.exe is a self-extracting executable file that installs versions of the Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files required by all applications created with Visual Basic 6.0. The files include the fixes shipped with Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5.
Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT

2. ChkDsk /f is a file correction utility designed by microsoft to fix file errors and lost or corrupted files and replace them with a
correction index file to fix an error. ChkDsk stands for Check Disk
and the /f stands for /fix, This is a good program if you're using an NTFS system, you can run it by going to start button/Run/ChkDsk /f
The Windows DOS screen will say it can't lock the drive do you wish to run ChkDsk /f at bootup? options Y/N ? choose Y for yes and reboot.
ChkDsk will run just before windows loads.

3.If you are using a fat 16 or fat 32 system you can use ScanDisk which is a microsoft utility usually located in the system tools panel
Start button/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Scandisk, Make sure the
auto fix check box is checked before running.

4.You can read about Norton System Works here, It's a windows utility program to help fix window errors, It's possible that you may have a problem it can fix if the others above do not help.
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/sysworks/basic/features.html

5.Have you updated your windows lately?
you can go here and update your windows from microsoft.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
Maybe installing some of the updated files recommended from microsoft will help resolve the problem.

Hope this helps.
Jerry.

Hmmm... I'm kinda at a loss here myself. Maybe try the other suggestions here. When you say it "stops" does that mean that the splash screen for HAL just sits there or does it go away? Hal puts a little icon in the system tray and if double-clicked, he's supposed to pop up the chat window and you can then type in and talk to him. If it doesn't work that way, I'm not sure what could be causing it.

As for the file, I've seen that in a crash recently (not HAL but something else) and tried to find that file too, and couldn't. Odd that the file is mentioned but doesn't exist. :/

hi

at onthecuttingedge2005

1) i downloaded and installed those file's
   but notting changed ....[V]

2) i tryed to run ChkDsk first, indeed a dos screen appears and runs.
but nog ERROR was mentioned, and in closed itself rapidly.
i tryed to run ChkDsk /f, but the dos screen that opened closed
   itself immediatly.

3) i runned scandisk and did a defragmentation
   no problems found

4) doing that now

5) i have all the latest update's done

at fussiedice

the splash screen just sits and doesn't change anymore.
i don't find a icon in the system tray

so if i try to run hal, follow message apears:
(sorry if i didn't mention this before [:I][:I])

your computer or the ultra hal assistan software was improperly shut down.if this is because windows crashed or your computer was not **** down properly, then there is nog cause for concern. If however, hal is crashing and you can't get it to start , a malfunctioning plug-in may be at fault.if this is the case, you ma wish to reconfigure hal with different plugins.would you like to reconfigure hal?(you should only reconfigure hal if hal is inoperable)

yes    no

so i click yes
run the "setup" again. but it stil block's at the my error screen.

hope we can figure it out !

thanx for the help sofare !!!!!
i apreciate it

Hi Dock.

When you unistalled HAL did you delete the folders left behind after the uninstall, This is important because if the folders were left behind and you reinstalled then your problems may still be present.

Try uninstalling HAL then go into windows explorer and find the Zabaware folder left behind and delete it, Then reinstall HAL again.

Some issues have been fix by doing so.

BTW, What windows O/S are you using 95/98/ME/2000/XP?

Jerry.

Hi Dock & Onthecuttingedge2005,

Maybe I can help. I experience the same problem every time I installed HAL in the past. The funny thing is: I just can't remember what I usually do to solve the problem, but is has never been a problem for very long. I guess the trick is to let Hal for the first time start up with all his extra features disabled in the default user profile.

Maybe this will work for you. Please rename the attached file to "User.hla" without the quotes. Then open your explorer and drop the attached file in Hal's main directory (probably C:|Program files|Zabaware). Then start up HalAsst.exe in the same folder.

If this doesn't work I will deinstall and install Hal again on my computer and tell you how I solve this problem.
