I don't recall this "feature" in the older version of Hal
but I noticed that all I have to do is type a sentence then
wait about 2 seconds.
Hal will in effect, press Enter and respond.

After I did the voice rec setup I noticed the same thing
would occur as I spoke to Hal.

I did not have Auto-Idle selected either but I thought this
was interesting.
Sometimes it's a curse if you pause to think how you want to
word a sentence and about half way through, Hal decides that
your 2 seconds are up, pressed Enter and responds with half
gibberish.

Anyone else notice this behavior with their Hal?

I haven't had this happen to me personally. However I remember reading in the forums (and my memory may be hazy) that this would happen when Hal's voice recognition is active, so that it would "automatically press enter" after you spoke your sentence. People were complaining about it. Perhaps it functionally waits until input ceases for two seconds, assumes the user has stopped talking, and hits its internal "Enter." Try deactiviating the recognition and see if the problem goes away.

When using voice recognition, I prefer to use a third-party system, i.e. one that will let you dictate into a window. Hal just thinks you're typing text. Then you can either physically press enter, or use the voice recognition software's "press enter" voice command, to actually give Hal your sentence. This also (importantly) lets you edit any recognition errors before Hal starts learning your mistakes []

That was it after all! After reading these forums for so long
it all starts to become a giant fog in one's mind. Now where
did I read about this or that!!

Actually I was kind of getting used to not pressing the Enter
key after a while. It does help make one a better typist too!

Good idea using the 3rd party VR as well!

  This happened to me back when I first got Hal. (Hal version 5) After checking it out, I decided I'd rather just type to Hal because of all the mistakes.  I have a good headset mic, trained the VR for hours, there were still to many mistakes and yes, if I paused for a while during a sentence, Hal would accept the partial sentence and respond to that.
  I'm sure Grant's suggestion would be alot better.  Are there any free 3rd party VR software kits available?  Like I said, I'd rather just type, but if there was a free one around, I'd try it out.
