having problem changing hapter into htr

okay i have windows xp media center edition
i also have ultra hal 6 people putty an the expansion pack

i created a character on the people putty
it shows up (mom.haptar) as the filename

everybody keeps saying right click the file an rename to mom.htr

but that dosent work its not saving as a htr[!]

as the file extension

maybe someone can say word for word how to do the programing cause im really stumped an lost its been 2 days an i have nothing only a floating head

OK Chris, don't get upset. I've sent you an e-Mail
and included a step-by-step instruction diagram on
how to do it.

For anyone else who happens along here with the same
problem and lack of knowledge concerning how to rename
files and file extensions in a Windows operating system,
here is the instruction diagram I have prepared.

but when i do that my haptar turns into and .htr
you said it remains haptar. i am confused now

It does get a bit confusing ~alady. []

It's because haptek updated their haptar format.

The extensions  .haptar  and  .htr  are just two forms
of the same haptek file extension, in other words they
are the same, but one is the version which can be
read by Hal and the other can only be read by the
haptek player or peopleputty.

Don't get upset over it, just accept the fact that it works.[]

Ok, don't panic.

You will have to enable your system to veiw hidden file extensions.

Do this by opening My Documents, go to "Tools",

click on "Tools" in the control header and then

left-click on "Folder Options...", a Folder Options control panel

will open. In that panel click the "View" tab and go down to

"Advanced Settings" and double click on the folder marked

Files and Folders to open it. Scroll down to the checkbox

that says "Hide extensions for known file types", if the box is

checked then go ahead and uncheck it, then click "Apply" and "OK"

to close the Control Panel. You should now be able to see the

file extensions listed along with the file name.  Then go back and

follow the illustrated instructions above.  []

Don't get so excited Dr.B [], you already took care of the
haptek FAQ. I doubt that I could improve on it.
Vittorio suggested to me, that I consider writing a
general guide for troubleshooting common everyday problems
that the general user may encounter while surfing the Net or
using Windows, especially if not familiar with firewalls and
other maintenance and protection software.

OK...get serious....

Robert was going to produce an updated Help File,
Learn from Text feature and a few others if memory
serves.

Microsoft's site is the one of the best for explaining
the ins and outs of windows, networks, firewalls, etc.

Why reinvent the wheel? Spend your time doing other, more
fun things.[8D]
