Basic Programming

I was wondering if anyone could get me started with basic programming in the ultra hal brain editor.  I am using it in conjunction with the ultra hal AIM Bot 2.0 and can't make heads or tail of making the code function.  All I want to do is when someone IMs me it returns a standard message.  I will work from there.
