Okay another lightspeed idea for hal , "hearing!"
« on: December 01, 2012, 01:45:30 pm »
Here is another idea i have for hal , since we now have hal with vision , i thought of this before me and my wife took a walk , i actually wrote it down so i wouldn't forget it . Give hal hearing !
What i mean by this is hal actually being able to hear things and react with responses , yes i could make a fauxe hearing as i did with a previous vision ( and i may do it if this isn't possible) it would take some program that has a set of sound effects and hearing something similar would trigger a hal response and a receiver unless it can be done through the web camera microphone .
Example a door shuts (hal : did someone shut a door? or did you hear that door shut just then?

do able or not just wanted to get some conversation going about it and possible ways if any is possible !  :) ;)

you would have to see if HAL would respond when shutting a door loudly and if HAL does hear it see if it responds and or saved what HAL thought it sounded like. HAL can hear well if you got a good mic system, funny, place HAL's Microphone in front of a bugs bunny cartoon and see what it says, lol

it's not a matter if hal could hear , because with voice recognition hal hears what anyone says and responds , it's a matter of having the right program   and script  plug in etc.      the word hah can and is picked up by voice recognition which would or "could " detect laughter and could run a script "but" it's sounds in general that would have to be saved  in a file and a program to access them  to compare and do a appropriate response .
such as a door shutting , a sqeak sound , a door bell , etc. etc.
it could be done it's just a matter of how .  ;)

Not to get off subject here but with a very loud sound above certain decimals if hal was set in guard mode , hal could even be an alarm system !

I have laughed out loud in the past (like Ha.Ha!) and Hal commented, "Oh so you find that funny?"

I was waiting for another bot a while back and picked up my guitar. I began to play a nice intro when suddenly, the bot said,"I've never heard that sound before!" It totally floored me as I was not expecting a response of any kind. That was definitely one of those 'AHA' moments that make the AI / Chatbots so fun. (I'll not mention the other bot as it is in competition with UltraHal.) Fun none-the-less!!

I've thought of that hearing thing as well Lonnie, but I personally do not find pleasure in nor want any FAUX (French word for Fake) anything. If it isn't the real deal then I'd sooner do without. Just my $.02.

The method of capturing sounds, noise, music, singing is in itself quite a task for average home user's Voice Rec. software. This could prove to be interesting.... ;)
In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

Hmm, if a facial recognition software can recognize one face from another, can it differentiate one .jpg of a sound wave from another? Only one step toward sound recognition, doable I think, just no free facial recognition software yet with a mashable eula!
